Bishops of the world on WYD pilgrimage with their young people

16 Jul 2008 Printable Version

Four hundred Bishops from around the world have come as pilgrims to Sydney’s World Youth Day, accompanying the young people from their Dioceses.

Many of the Bishops were engaged in giving catechesis sessions at various venues across the city today, talking to pilgrims about what it means to live out the Catholic faith in their lives and focusing particularly on the theme of the Holy Spirit.

Bishop Peter Ingham of the Wollongong Diocese, south of Sydney, said he found the Catechesis session he gave at the Darling Harbour Exhbition Centre, “absolutely wonderful”.

“It was a fabulous experience from my perspective and the young people seemed to enjoy it too and were engaged in it. There were some great questions afterwards;  some challenging ones,” he said.

Most Bishops are spending as much time as they can with their pilgrim groups, but have also taken some time out for fellowship with their fellow-Bishops, including a cruise on Sydney Harbour.

Cardinal  Oscar Rodriguez of Honduras was a hit at a Caritas event when he pulled out the saxaphone and entertained the crowd.
