The Australian Catholic Commission for Employment Relations together with Catholic Social Services Australia provided a joint submission to the Productivity Commission Inquiry into Paid Maternity, Paternity and Parental Leave.
The joint ACCER/CSSA submission focussed on the needs of the family, the common good associated with ensuring the welfare of the next generation, the disadvantage experiend by women in balancing the responsibilities of work and family, the need to overcome financial obstacles to family formation, and the need to ensure that women's roles in child-bearing do not adversely impact on their capacity to enjoy full participation in the paid workforce.
The Productivity Commission received 228 submissions on this matter and is due to release a draft report in September this year. Public Hearings on the Draft Report are due to commence in late November 2008 with the final report due for release on 28 February 2009.
