Pilgrims from Perth

This Celebration
Lisa Bridle

The primary school which my children attend has a tradition of staging an annual Easter pageant. This year will be my son Sean’s final pageant as next year he will be moving on to the new adventure of high school. What a delight then that he was chosen for the very important role of the risen Jesus in the story of the Easter folktale “The Three Trees”.

Our Lady of Mercy Parish Girrawheen
Fr Anthony Vallis

I first met Mike Hurn who is coordinator of the Personal Advocacy Group when I took over the parish. He in turn introduced me to the members of our parish who support the Disabled Friends of the group. They have met at the Parish Centre every Tuesday at 6.30pm. Once a month they attend our Saturday Vigil Mass and bring up the gifts. I also celebrate a very beautiful and meaningful rite of Reconciliation every two or three months. I found these gatherings exceptionally uplifting and healing for all concerned.

The Myth of the Perfect Child
Marcia Riordan, Executive Officer, Respect Life Office, Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne

Our theme for this Respect Life Sunday is the Myth of the Perfect Child and is also on prenatal screening.

The Church in Melbourne wants to raise awareness of the pressures placed on parents to terminate and to offer the community an alternative view of the dignity of all human life. We want to reveal the reality of modern medical eugenics while at the same time giving the Catholic community reasons to hope and new ways of standing in solidarity against this “choice.” To promote and facilitate this day, the Respect Life Office has published resource materials for parishes and secondary schools within the Archdiocese.  We hope that these resources will be timely and will help both educate and inform Catholics and other people of good will, given that the State Government is currently considering decriminalising abortion.
